Learn about Country Road Hardware

Peter and Arlene Charest began a company called Better Barns, building small modular yard structures early in the 1980’s in Bethlehem, Connecticut.  It grew increasingly successful as a result of a combination of inspiration and perseverance, with a vow to put the customers first and constantly focus on quality.  Over thirty years later, they sold Better Barns, and Better Barns Hardware and Plans, LLC is co-owned by one of their daughters.

Original Better Barns buildings grace the covers of the Sunset Press and Fine Homebuilding soft-cover books, on the “Do It Yourself” bookshelves in the big hardware outlet stores. You can find them in Popular Mechanics, Today’s Homeowner, Better Homes and Gardens and Sunset Press… and a “How-To” book published by Fine Homebuilding.

Country Road Hardware, LLC is Pete’s more recently established business with the focus on maintenance-free, custom barn replacement windows.  In addition, he offers “T-REX” framing connectors for post and beam buildings.  Both the unique AZEK-trimmed Winchester Windows and innovative connectors are available exclusively on this website.  For further information on the connectors and post and beam construction, visit Connecticut Post & Beam today.
